The Steelhead Kaleidoscope

The Steelhead Kaleidoscope has become one of my go to flies over the past couple of years. I love the simple elegance of a traditional hairwing steelhead fly.

My steelhead box is full of flies that I have tied myself, there are a couple spots for "Guest Flies"(flies that have been tied by friends and gifted to me), and so I am always experimenting and trying out new recipes. I typically have dark flies and bright flies, tied in a range of sizes. This version is my newest bright fly. It probably wont replace my other bright flies but it certainly will get a dedicated spot in my box. Last year I tied a batch of flies up for a friend going to the dean and he commented on how much he like this fly. This year I tied them on this bigger Aqua Flies Kingfisher hook, size 3, for his trip. So since I was tying him a few I thought I might add some to my box as well.

When I tie these for myself I might add Jungle Cock eyes and maybe even a wing of Polar Bear if I'm feeling frisky.
