This is Your Season

I don’t know about you, but this year has been the most challenging of my life. Looking back over the last decade, I would’ve hoped that 2025 would not bring this definition, and I do my best to remember that there is always a light, even when I can’t see through the haze. When life weighs heavily, my soul longs for peace and quiet that I only find when I’m standing in the river, surrounded by wild places with a two-handed rod attached to an old Hardy click and pawl. Here, I find my recharge. And sometimes in moments of focus, a unicorn of silver lining grabs the fly.

From one-on-one sessions and semi-private lessons to small clinic settings, I’ve developed a comprehensive, fast-track approach to teaching people what I love about fly fishing. Practical teaching strategies rooted in mindfulness and structured, clear verbiage that lead you to understand best how to stay safe, self-correct, and communicate with me to help problem-solve in the future. I’m here to paint you a picture of line control you can see! With a single- or two-handed rod, I guarantee I will put you on the best path to success. Demo rods are available for lessons if need be, so, put a casting lesson at the top of your holiday want list to get a solid foundation or brush off those lingering cobwebs for a fresh start to the season.

I recently enjoyed teaching a Spey demo to our veterans here in West Linn through Project Healing Waters Portland-Vancouver. We lucked out with pristine weather last Saturday morning and a great group of varied levels on the two-handed rod to discuss spey basics and hot tips to make everybody more confident. The second annual on-the-water Spey Day opportunity for PHWFF Vets will take place on January 24th at Barton Park. Lead once again by Veteran Chris Williams, last year's teaching venue was a hit and helped all in attendance acquire new skills alongside other veterans. This event is a “wader up for all and get your hands on the rod” event that I’m very much looking forward to attending this year as a river helper with this outstanding group!

The opportunities to jump in on the spey game are all around us here in the PNW so here’s your sign announcing ~THIS IS YOUR SEASON~ where you dial in swinging a swung fly.

See you all soon!
