Purple Angel tying tutorial

The Purple Angel is a classic steelhead fly tied by Bob Strobel of Washington. I believe this fly was originally tied for winter steelhead on the S rivers around Seattle. The Original version was tied with Purple and fire red chenille, and a tail of hackle fibers. I was first introduced to this fly when I worked for Mark Bachmann in the early 2000's at the Welches fly shop. That pattern was a summer steelhead staple on the Deschutes River. Pink and purple flies were very popular and definitely caught fish.
