Josh’s Tube Sculpin

With the lack of steelhead and the fishing closures streamer fishing has become very popular so I thought it would be fun to do one of my favorite little streamers. I came up with this pattern after a streamer fishing trip where I noticed the fly I was fishing was fouling quite a bit and was getting a lot of short strikes.

When I set about tying this fly I knew I wanted to tie it on a tube, I would be able to have the hook in the back and it wouldn’t fowl, plus I would be able to easily change out the trailer hook. I wanted to use rabbit so I would be able to adjust the length of the body and easily trim it if I felt like I needed a smaller fly. Not to mention the rabbit has a lot of movement and comes in a lot a different colors. Add a little flash and boom you’re well on your way to having a great fly.

Nice! Just what I need for Puget Sound searun cutthroat and resident coho, but will use a light colored ostrich herl for belly instead of black.
