Fall Fishing Report

Fish counts over Bonneville dam have been pretty good and are well above the 10 year average. The Deschutes continues to have great steelhead fishing in the lower 50 miles. The fishing in the upper river should turn on soon. Currently there are about 50 steelhead a day going over shearers falls.
Other Columbia River tributaries have been fishing good too, the Klickitat for one, and as the weather gets cooler it should get better and better.
The Clackamas and other local rivers are starting to fill up with Coho, pink flies seem to be working the best. The next time we get a little rain it should really get fish moving, pulling them into all of our local rivers.
On the trout front, the Deschutes is fishing great. Trout have been keyed in on Caddis, and there are starting to be quite a few October Caddis around. Run a big dry like a chubby with a dropper.
The Metolius is another great option right now. Green drakes have been hatching most days between 2:00 and 4:00. But don’t overlook big October Caddis and even smaller BWO’s.
The fall is arguably the best time of year. Days are getting cooler and fish are happy. Get out while there are still great fishing opportunities.
