In 2016, during my annual pilgrimage to the Big Bend Pool on Steamboat Creek, I sat with Lee Spencer for over 2-hours watching the wild Steelhead in the pool. I had my camera with a long lens mounted and watched the fish moving up and down the pool. Occasionally one would break the surface and leap into the air. I noticed that just before they took flight, they would dive down to the bottom of the pool and rub on the rocks before bursting upwards through the mirrored surface. I keyed on that behavior and was able to capture this image.
