Trailer Trash Thursday First Water Edition

Joel La Follette - Thursday, October 25, 2018

I'm thinking a helicopter would be awesome for the Native Trout-a-thon. Anyone have one I can borrow?

Trailer Trash Thursday I Meant to Do That Edition

Joel La Follette - Thursday, October 18, 2018

Sometimes we can't see what's right under our nose and when we do, it's too late. I present this example as a reminder that it happens to all of us, sometimes.

Pyramid Lake/Owyhee River Road Trip

Joel La Follette - Wednesday, March 21, 2018

Here are a few photos from my 1500 mile, 7-day road trip to Pyramid Lake and the Owyhee River.

I drove 30 miles on gravel to get here and wasn't about to turn around...

At times the wind was calm and peaceful.

And sometimes it blew...

Big fish are the payoff for casting for hours in the wind...

You just need to keep the fish off your ladder....

The colors in the desert are beautiful this time of year...

and they match my net.

Ethyl retired in '93 and moved to the desert for her health...

Sit awhile... maybe next time.

The cow was tied up and I'm pretty sure the monkey did it.

Thanks, my friend.

Trailer Trash Thursday Montana Winter Edition

Joel La Follette - Thursday, November 10, 2016

I thought maybe you like to see video of what my trip to Craig, Montana was like. While we didn't have the ice like shown here in todays film, it did get a little breezy. I even met some of these folks while I was out there and I just have to say... THEY ARE NUTS!

Big Trout in Big Sky Country

Joel La Follette - Thursday, November 10, 2016
Tucked away off the beaten path in Montana is the little town of Craig. I'm not sure if that definition would hold true in other parts of the world, but here in Montana four stops signs, three fly shops, two bars and one river do indeed define a town. A town where the number of residents is only slightly higher than the number of drift boats parked awaiting their next adventure.

This time of year the stops signs seem irrelevant as the traffic of summer has come and gone. The fly shops are kept open by the dedicated, but even the bars fail to attract much business. As winter slowly envelopes this sleepy Montana town it is the river that still draws attention. Beneath its shimmering surface are large Trout that bring hoards of anglers during the summer, but only handfuls of enthusiasts during the colder months.

I find myself temporarily dropped into this unfamiliar and somewhat unusual place to spend time on the river and bond with a few of my industry peers. Over the last four days we've fished hard, ate far too well, told outrageous stories and collectively cast an obscene amount of new tackle from Rio and Sage. When the boat is on the trailer this evening and the day is recounted I'll pack my bags and start the journey home to much more familiar surroundings. I'll take with me memories of big trout, new friends and several spectacular sunsets. I'm not sure if the sky is any bigger here in Montana, they just seem to have more of it.

Trailer Trash Thursday Tenkara Edition

Now, before we label Tenkara as a small fish tool, check out the action from one of our Oregon rivers....

Trailer Trash Thursday Upstate Edition

Joel La Follette - Wednesday, May 18, 2016

We're heading upstate this week, although I'm not sure which state these millennials are referring to. I guess we have to assume they mean New York because, well, that's like a place we've all heard of. In any case, I love the video and I'm pretty we all understand "Stay stoked!" While I'm not sure when Episode 2 will air, I will keep an eye out for it.  I'm going to go stoke the fire now and stay warm!

Trailer Trash Thursday Dry Fly Love Song Edition

Joel La Follette - Thursday, March 31, 2016

One of the hardest things about doing a weekly feature is, well, it comes weekly. Finding a worthy video for Trailer Trash Thursday is becoming much harder in this day of head mounted GoPros and cheap video drones. Yesterday I was about to give up when I came upon this fantastic piece of fly fishing entertainment. Hallelujah!

Trail Trash Thursday "Just around the bend" edition

Joel La Follette - Wednesday, February 17, 2016

As anglers we search the depths and hiding places of our favorite stream, looking for that one special fish. We cast one more time, wade deeper and wonder what lies upriver or down. We are explorers and that fish of a lifetime might be just around the bend. Go find him.
