The Deschutes

The Deschutes is Oregon’s best known river and is home to the fabled “Redside Trout”. This species of trout is beautifully marked and are very strong fighters. In recent times the river has been managed to protect these wild trout so there is no longer any hatchery introduction of trout. That is not the case with Salmon and Steelhead in the Deschutes. These species provide a harvest fishery for both sport anglers and tribal members in addition to the wild native population. Summer steelheading on the Deschutes is an experience not to be missed!
