Intro to Jack:
I have been fishing my whole life. Fly-fishing has been more than just a passion of mine for three years now. You might say it has become an addiction to the point of no recovery.
The Portland area has been home my entire life. I have grown up less than 4-miles from the shop and only 2- miles to the Clackamas River. My best friend and I ride our bikes to fish the Clackamas for winter steelhead (even in the snow.) We have shared this adventure over the last two years.
It is my Senior year at Gladstone High School. I’m planning on attending Montana State University after graduation. Where else would a fly fisherman go? My off water sports have included running cross-country and long-distance track. I was league champion in the 2018 Cross Country season.
The Metolius is my all-time favorite river by far. Last year I spent an entire week on the Metolius during the summer camping at Camp Sherman. During that trip, I hooked 7 decent sized fish in three days. I fished the Crooked River once, but it’s not as neat as the Metolius. I fish the Deschutes several times each year. This past summer I went on another camping trip to Grand Ronde Lake where I landed 22 fish in two days.
My philosophy on trout fishing is to travel with a small amount of versatile gear, but include several boxes of flies (200-250 flies on some trips). This allows you to be ready to fish under any hatch or circumstance. I switch up my thinking from most and practice keeping the mindset of hunting for trout vs. fishing for trout.
Stop by and pull up a chair to see my youthful spirit applied to innovative new flies for the fly-fishing community.
The fun starts at 10:30 AM.
